shotmaker privacy

Effective 7 November 2026.

Shotmaker is a golf game. You can play all of it on your own without signing in to anything. If you sign in to Game Center, you can also play matches with friends, enter the weekly tournament and the daily challenge, earn ranking points and appear on the leaderboards, and for that some of your game goes to our server. This policy says what, why, for how long, and how to remove it.

Playing on your own

Your swings, rounds, scorecards, handicap, practice records and settings are stored on your phone. They are included in your phone's own iCloud or computer backups if you have those turned on, under Apple's terms.

If iCloud Drive is on, Shotmaker also keeps its own copy of them in your iCloud, in Shotmaker's own folder there, so that a new phone can take them back. It is written after each finished round, and otherwise at most every six hours. That copy is in your iCloud account, under Apple's terms, and we never see it.

Deleting the app deletes them from your phone. Shotmaker's copy in iCloud stays until you remove it in your phone's settings (your name, iCloud, Manage Storage, Shotmaker).

Shotmaker has no advertising network, no analytics service and no tracking, and it contains no other company's code.

Playing online

Online play uses your Game Center account, which is Apple's. Shotmaker asks Game Center quietly when it opens; if you are not signed in, it never asks again over play, and you can sign in from Settings whenever you like.

When you are signed in, Shotmaker sends our server:

WhatWhy
Your Game Center player ID, the nickname you chose in Game Center, and the version of Shotmaker you playTo know your rounds are yours, and to show your nickname on boards and in matches. We never see your Apple Account, your real name or your email address.
Each finished handicap round, match round, tournament round and daily challenge attempt, with its record of every swing, and with a handicap round the handicap index you played it offSo a round can be played again exactly and checked, and placed on the leaderboards and in your matches, tournaments and the daily challenge.
That you have started a match round, a tournament round or the day's challenge, and that you gave one upSo each round is played once, and a round given up counts as one.
Your card hole by hole while you play a match roundSo the others in the match can follow it.
Your list of Game Center friends, only if you have already chosen to share it with Shotmaker in Game CenterTo show you how your friends are doing. Nobody else ever sees your list.
A notification token from Apple, only if you allow notificationsTo tell you when a match or tournament round is about to close, when a friend invites you, and our news (a new tournament or a new version of Shotmaker).

Our server also keeps a scrambled, one-way fingerprint of your internet address for no more than three days, to stop anyone sending too many requests. It never keeps the address itself.

Who sees what

Other players see your Game Center nickname, your scores, your ranking points and your place on a board, including the daily challenge's. People in a match with you see your cards hole by hole. Anyone in a match you are in, or anyone who can see your place on a board, can watch that round played again from its record. Nobody sees your friends list or your notification token.

Where it is kept, and for how long

Our server runs on Supabase, a hosting company that stores it for us in Ireland, under a data processing agreement. We do not sell your information or share it with anyone else.

WhatKept for
A round's record of every swing42 days, then deleted. A record we find has been tampered with is kept for six months.
A round's score and place on a boardOne year.
A match or a weekly tournament, and the ranking points it gaveOne year after it ends.
That you started or gave up a match or tournament roundUntil that match or tournament is deleted.
That you started or gave up a day's challengeUntil your player record is deleted.
A note of each check made on one of your roundsTwo years.
Your player ID and nicknameTwo years after you last signed in.
Your friends list90 days after it was last sent.
Your notification tokenUntil you turn notifications off in Shotmaker's Settings, or delete your online data.

Deleting your online data

In Shotmaker, open Settings, then Online, and choose Delete my online data. Game Center confirms it is you, and our server then deletes your player record, every round and record of yours, your friends list, your notification token and your places on every board, and removes you from your matches and tournaments. Nothing more is sent until you choose to send your rounds again. Your rounds on your phone, and Shotmaker's copy in your iCloud, are not touched.

Getting your rounds back

On a new phone Shotmaker offers to take back its copy from your iCloud. If you are signed in to Game Center, it can also ask our server for your own finished rounds of the last year, with their scores, and put them back on the phone; you can ask again from Settings, then Online, at any time.

If a player has been barred for altering the game, we keep only a one-way fingerprint of their player ID after deletion, so the bar holds.

Purchases

Purchases and subscriptions (the Shotmaker Club, or a course bought on its own) are handled by Apple through your Apple Account. We do not see your name, email address or payment details. The app only asks Apple which courses you are entitled to play.

Crash reports

If the app stops unexpectedly, your phone may give it a technical report of what went wrong. Shotmaker keeps the most recent of these on your phone, where they stay; they hold no personal information.

If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your phone's settings (Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements), Apple may send us anonymous crash and performance reports. They contain no personal information, and you can turn sharing off at any time in the same place.

Children

Shotmaker is rated 13+ on the App Store, because its tournaments, rankings and leaderboards are competitive. Online play needs a Game Center account, and Apple's own settings let a parent turn off multiplayer games and friends for a younger player (Screen Time, Content & Privacy Restrictions, Game Center).

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what our server holds about you, ask us to correct it, or delete it yourself as above. Write to us at the address below. If you are in the UK or the European Union you may also complain to your data protection authority; in the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

We use your information only to run the online game you asked to play (the lawful basis is our contract with you), and to keep it fair (our legitimate interest in stopping cheating).

Changes

If we change what Shotmaker sends or how long it is kept, we will update this policy before the change reaches the app, and change the date at the top.
